Guitars gently weeping... Empty
PostSubject: Guitars gently weeping...   Guitars gently weeping... EmptyWed Aug 10, 2011 2:41 am

Been on a guitar kick lately, but not just guitar...the guys (and gals?) who can tell an entire story with 30 seconds of solo...the type of guitar that you feel. While looking around, I forgot a couple, but remembered. Here's two awesome (IMO) solos. I'm starting the vids at different points (i.e. not the beginnings) for different reasons, but if you want, go ahead and open in the tube and watch in full. Grrrrr....the start time thing didn't work. I will manually type the time I had preset them to start...

First, how could I ever forget this scene:

RIP

Next, how could I forget one of my favorite guitarists growing up? Liked this guy before I even knew who Slash was! Had it set to start at 3:10

Here I go again...not sure if this is bass or didgeridoo in the background...or synth or what, so I guess the topic should be instrumental and not just guitar unless someone can be sure it's all guitar. I used to rewind this tape and listen to this over and over...not screaming guitar, but there's a definite story being told!

And look, Brian will even teach you how to do what he does!!! Yeah, good luck with that... Shocked

Oooo, and hear I thought you were going to have a discussion on the Beatles! Bastich.

Anywho, I agree, but only in part... Seems only the worthwhile solos are in live performances, and that the studio versions are in just to add length to a song.

But, I say onto you, if you want that emotional confrontation, those tear jerking moments where you are swept from reality and thrust into a dream-state, then nothing but nothing beats a good instrumental.

Lyrics tend to get in the way of things... instrumentals can carry you where-ever.

There's a lot of instrumental bands that are great. There's a lot of instrumentals that are amazing. But, in keeping with the whole "guitar solo", I submit this song... the theme to Metal Gear Solid. The solo part starts at 3:10, but the song is well worth listening to as well as watching as it includes many cut scenes from the games.

The band W.A.S.P. is not really as big of a band as Aerosmith or Queen. Maybe they're even less popular than the MGS video games, but this 'basic' instrumental is a good one...

Another favorite instrumental!!!!

Enjoy! Headbanger

Guitars equals strings. A recent conversation about the "Trololo Guy" included some talk of the balalaika. I have some Russian folk music done on balalaika, but have rarely "seen" them in action, so I decided to try youtubing it. Found a nice vid with a guy on guitar and another on the balalaika. I didn't realize the number of strings, but that looks differing cuz I saw another vid with a 4-string balalaika. Anywho, about 1:10 into the vid, they zoom in to the one guy on balalaika, and you can see his fingers going frickin NUTS! We all like seeing the Slash's and Brian May's and other guys who can guitar faster than you can see... check this guy out! Only three strings and his hands are a blur!

Holy shit. Electric balalaika... comments funny as hell, and this guy is just shredding like a mad genius! One of the comments says give him an electric guitar and he'd rip it apart.

Same guy... and THIS goes back to what I said in the first post about telling a story with the sound of one instrument... no idea what the story is but you can FEEL something from this...
