Everyone has a book that they share with everyone... I have several. But, to get things rolling, I'll list one, and then hopefully someone will add to it, and so on. I know I'll add more later, but please, limit yourself to one book per post; it'll keep things simplier.

The first book in this list shall be Neverwhere by Niel Gaiman.

Oh, how to explain this book without giving anything away. I should probably phrase that as a question: how would one describe this book without giving ANYTHING away? Seriously. How?!

You could go on the wiki, but that'll ruin it.

Here, maybe this will help, as it is pulled directly from Gaiman's site
Quote :
If Tim Burton reimagined The Phantom of the Opera, if Jack Finney let his dark side take over, if you rolled the best work of Clive Barker, Peter Straub and Caleb Carr into one, you still would have something that fell far short of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. It is a masterful debut novel of darkly hypnotic power, and one of the most absorbing reads to come along in years.

This is a book that I have thrust towards family and friend... a book that had been thrust at me. You will love this book, I promise; I haven't heard of anyone who hasn't.

Now, there are a few books which I will read over and over (will go into those in different posts), but this one... I've gone through a few copies already. I probably read this about three, maybe four, times a year. You may not do that, but the visuals and story will stick with you, you'll want to be a part of it.

Doubt me? Read it, prove me wrong.

I have read the book, and I must say, based on your post, you are way too obsessed with thrusting and being thrusted at. Razz Thrust your book! I shall parry with mine! Have at thee!

But seriously folks, I'm adding to the list. Recently my wife asked for some author ideas for "something different" to read, and suggestions given were Terry Pratchett and Piers Anthony. I am familiar with both of their works, though never read any myself...and I will say those are two excellent "something different" authors. However, I do believe the suggester forgot an important one...a series that I believe would be appreciated by anyone enjoying fantasy and sci-fi: The Landover series by Terry Brooks!

Trying not to give too much away, a big-time lawyer who feels like he has reached the pinnacle of his life and its "all down-hill from here" finds an ad in a paper to buy a magic kingdom. Believing it's just creative advertising for a club-med style getaway retreat, he makes the purchase and actually finds himself the new king of a magical kingdom called Landover. As you can imagine, the kingdom was being sold in our own world because there were a few issues needing to be dealt with, and now it's up to a man out of his element and experience to try to save the kingdom!

One of the better book series I have read, though I unfortunately have not read the most recent book yet. Start with 'Magic Kingdom for Sale--SOLD!' and if you enjoy then there's 5 more after that!
