Anyone try looking up anything to see about doing a capture on streaming movies? Curious about downloading movies from Netflix. Currently checking out Replay Media Catcher, but that's only because that was the first thing to pop up on my searches.

I looked into several options for this until I found out they scan the downstream. When you watch a movie, it streams a lot slower than when one of these programs or plugins downloads it. If Netflix detects a continuous high speed stream on your account, they say they will kill your account without a refund. At the time I was reading all this, a few forum posts also explained that part of the EULA between netflix and Sony involves netflix passing on said info to Sony, in case people were doing this copyright infringement through their PS3s...and some of the posts ended in people saying they had their PS accounts perma-banned. No way to verify, and I'm not going to risk it, but I would say that piece of software you mentioned is a good place to start. Have successfully used it to borrow several tube videos before.

I've used a different product by the same makers of the aforementioned product to record songs. Worked along the same method as the old radios with the tape deck... press record while it was playing, and it would record everything played (duh). Apparently the same is true with this other program... hit record, press play.

Methinks it should be okay. Nothing prevents me from hooking up a VCR to my television and recording the movies, so why not this? Will have to check into it.

But that is an interesting idea. Record onto a VCR and then transfer to disk. Hmm...

Anyone else notice that Netflix is removing movies from instant streaming? Discovered this the other day when I tried to watch Undercover Brother...it was there, I know it was there as I watched it when we first got Netflix, but now it is gone. I also recall a mutual friend had tried to find stuff that was on before, but no longer is.

How can Netflix claim that they want to put all they have on instant streaming when they keep removing things? Makes no sense.

The best explanation that I have is that while they (NetFlix) are in the process of eventually moving everything over to streaming, they still have to make room for newer movies. I'd also have to say that the movies which are 'removed' are ones that people don't watch that often. I to have had movies removed.... (It would be neat to see a list of movies and a tally of how many times it was watched.)

Just my $.02

Another big reason for this stupidity is contracts. I'm sure you've all noticed a good portion of the movies available are hosted (owned?) by STARZ. Netflix streaming operates just like a TV provider like Time Warner or Dish Network. They pay companies X,Y, and Z to get the rights to digitally distribute visual properties owned by those XYZ companies. If they fail to pay, or can't come to a contract agreement, they have to pull those movies and/or shows. Same basic thing when everyone freaks out because Time Warner and FOX can't make a money agreement, and "Oh No! How will we watch the Packers?!"

Coincidentally, I just heard yesterday that Netflix and STARZ are duking it out over contract money right now, and it sounds like Netflix might lose STARZ. "We are going to increase your prices because we have the bestest service ever! But we are going to take away 75% of the movies you can stream. Have a happy!"

I heard that the prices are going to go up by 60%... (doing quick math)

(to easy it was hard)

O.k... I pay $9.00.... I'll be paying $14.40 now.... Still cheaper than renting. Especially when I watch more episodic content rather than movies..

Who'd have thought this Netflix thread would cover so much? Here's an other little issue...

With all the talk of anime going on lately, I was watching Vexille and Appleseed on Netflix to compare the two animation styles. However, out of simple disgust, I had to turn off Appleseed.

Why? I like Appleseed, even though the story's been told time and again... so why would I turn it off in disgust?

It's been edited.

Seriously. This Appleseed monstrosity that is on Netflix is not the same as what you would find on DVD. The movie was never heavy with gore, and yet the opening scene when a rebel is getting his head crushed was removed. The scene where Deunan jumps behind Hitomi in the hospital room as added blurriness. And most obvious of all, the voice of Briareos is different as well! Within the first 10 minutes of the Netflix film I noted three changes, possibly four (but I have to double check).

What gives?

It isn't as if Appleseed was filled with bubbly bouncy women exposing themselves at a moment notice, no sexual undertones (although I think Hitomi and Deunan were hitting on each other a few times). It isn't as if Netflix has prevented cartoons or even movies which show more from being on. The violence isn't even there; just the one scene I mentioned, and that's pretty much it.

So why the changes?!

I should just watch the movie. After all, it's still a good movie... *sigh* Anyone else notice this? Or other alterations to shows you've noticed?

...

Ahh, thank goodness for wiki. Netflix, I apologize.

Seems there were two english dub releases.

Quote :
The film was released in theaters on April 17, 2004 in Japan. A year later, Geneon Entertainment released the film in select theaters in the US and was later released on DVD on May 10, 2005. However, Geneon Entertainment's North American division was shut down in December 2007. The film was then picked up by Sentai Filmworks; with distribution from ADV Films and was re-released on DVD on July 1, 2009. Sentai Filmworks, along with Section23 Films, released Appleseed on Blu-ray Disc on May 18, 2010. The Blu-ray edition of the film included the original Animaze English dub, and an updated dub produced by Seraphim Digital, which features most of the cast from Appleseed Ex Machina.

If I am reading this correctly, the voice actors of the Ex Machina are the ones who would be on the dubbed version on Netflix. Anyone want to verify this? I haven't seen Ex... or have I? Quick check here... yep, I've seen this one, but thought it wasn't as good as the first (only saw it once, a long while back).

"The selection of available titles is based upon the user's IP address. For most users, this corresponds to the user's physical location. However, it means that, for example, a user in Canada who is accessing the Internet through a U.S.-based router connection will see the selection available to U.S. users." Direct quote from the Netflix Wiki...

So in Japan, there would be more Anime and less Chuck Norris? I wonder if there is a way to bounce off of another IP address to see what's out there
